When is the best time to visit Merimbula?

In the winter months, the town can be cool and windy, but the pleasant temperatures make this a good time for sightseeing. Here you have the opportunity to experience an incredible range of nature activities, not least of which is the walk along the Merimbula Boardwalk, which skirts around the top of Merimbula Lake. Several national parks are within a short driving distance from the town, giving plenty of opportunities to explore unspoilt areas of natural beauty. To the north Bournda Nature Reserve offers walking tracks, camping facilities and lake swimming, including a lovely coastal track that stretches to Tura Beach. To the south, Ben Boyd National Park is the home of 212 bird species and 50 mammal species. If you want to find out about the region's history, there are plenty of heritage buildings to visit. The Bega Cheese Heritage Centre in the nearby town of Bega offers cheese tasting and a history of cheese making in the region, whilst the Bega Pioneers' Museum exhibits a collection of local objects from the past. Of course, this destination is not just about nature, wildlife and heritage. The town has its very own theme park, Magic Mountain, which offers exciting family entertainment, including rollercoasters and water attractions that will thrill children and parents alike. If that's not enough, you can also treat the kids to a visit to the Aquarium, a 70,000 litre oceanarium located on Merimbula Wharf.

Getting around New South Wales

There are bus services that operate between the town and other local towns in New South Wales, including Bega, Eden and Tura Beach. A local taxi company also operates within the town area.

How to get to the city from the airport?

Merimbula Airport (MIM) is located 1.6 km south of the town, providing connecting flights to other Australian cities, such as Sydney and Melbourne. You can hire a car from one of several major car rental companies to meet you at the airport. Alternatively, you can book a taxi to transfer into town.
