Flights to Myanmar from Australia can vary in length based on departure site, arrival site, airline, number of stops, and length of stopovers along the way. Travellers going to Yangon from Sydney will find that the quickest flights reach Yangon in 12h 05, however, some flights can take several hours longer than that. If going to Mandalay from Brisbane, the flight can take as little as 15h 25m or go as long as 27h 05m.
Unfortunately, there are currently no direct, nonstop flights from Australia to Myanmar. Visitors can take a stopover flight into Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw. Travellers going to Naypyidaw from Brisbane will find flights available from Qantas, Bangkok Airlines, Myanmar National Airlines, and others. Myanmar flight deals are also available from Sydney to Yangon with service by AirAsia, Thai Airlines, Qantas, and other airlines.
Flying is one of the most common ways to get around Myanmar as it is often cheap and quick to travel a long distance. The busiest route is between Mandalay and Yangon with eight flights every day. Another option is taking a boat trip, some of which pass through numerous cities on a cruise. There is a nine-hour trip between Mandalay and Bagan that is inexpensive. Travelling by bus is another option that is inexpensive and quick. A bus may also be the only way to reach some locations. Travelling by train is also possible but often takes a long time and may not be the most comfortable option.
Myanmar has tons of things to do for visitors from Australia. One of the most popular spots to visit is Shwedagon Pagoda, which can be seen from the rooftops in Yangon. Taking a walking tour of the same city can also be a lot of fun and offer insight into the country’s culture and architecture. A visit to Inle Lake will let visitors take in the stilted houses of the area from one of the many international restaurants. For a more adventurous experience, some travellers choose to dive in the Myeik Archipelago to see the fish, sea life, and corals. Many people also choose to spend a few days in Bagan taking in the hundreds of temples in the area. There are several festivals to check out including the Pindaya Cave Festival in March, Thihoshin Pagoda Festival in June and July, and Maha Thingyan in March.
Travellers coming into Myanmar from Australia will need to have a passport. It should be valid for at least six months after the date of departure. A visa is also required to visit this country, although an eVisa can be applied quite easily. A visa on arrival can be provided for a fee when in transit and moving on, but this service is not always available.
