Cheap Flights to Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan overview

When is the best time to fly to Tashkent?

The summer months in this region of the world can be very hot, rising to 40 - 45 degrees Celsius. Avoid June and July to escape the heat, and travel in May or September to enjoy a mild temperature. Visiting during a holiday period, such as Eid, will enable you to enjoy Tashkent in colourful festival mode. Visiting during a festival or during the school holidays can often be more expensive so travel during the off peak winter season (December to February) to get the best deals on flights and hotels.

Tashkent overview

Uzbekistan's capital is a fantastic place to experience the country's culture in a nutshell. The city is located on the historic Silk Road stretching from China, and thus has long been a site of the rich mingling of different cultures. Culture lovers should make sure to pay a visit to the Ilkhom Theatre in the centre of the city, as there is always a show or two on here and plenty of musical concerts and dance based pieces too. Independence Square (or Mustakillik Square) is one of the main landmarks in Tashkent, and this spacious and contemporary feeling square is a great place to take a stroll. With its elegant blue and white stone exterior, the Teleshayakh Mosque is one of Tashkent's architectural gems and is certainly well worth a visit. And if you want to experience some peace and tranquil greenery right in the heart of the metropolis, then make sure to take a saunter in the Japanese Garden. The Uzbekistan State Museum of Applied Art is one of the must-see galleries in this city, whilst the Amir Timur Museum is a really interesting place to while away an afternoon or a couple of hours in the morning.

Getting around Uzbekistan

Many travellers find that the Tashkent metro is almost as much a work of art as it is a handy way to get around. Journeys by metro are very cheap, and there are just three lines so the system is easy to navigate. There is also a good network of buses and trams if you prefer to travel above ground. Taxis and hire cars are another good option. However, be aware that in the last few years, many of the hotels and streets in Tashkent have been completely renamed. That means that your taxi driver might not always know the 'new' name for your destination. So, it is a good idea to research the 'old' names of places you want to go just in case.

Getting from the Airport to the City

The closest airport is Tashkent International Airport (TAS), which is conveniently located 7.5 miles (12 km) from the centre of the city. Take an airport shuttle bus, a taxi, or hire a car to get you to your destination. Sharing a taxi with other travellers going the same way will help you to really reduce the cost of your journey if you go for this option.
