When to Fly?
The months of April through to September are the best times to take a flight to Funchal. The weather is at its finest during this period and the abundant local flowers are in full bloom. Every April, the city plays host to the famous Madeira Flower Festival, where the streets burst into life with colourful carnival floats and dancers.
Carnival in Funchal is another must-see event with two parades, colourful costumes and samba dancers. The city is flooded with crowds of revellers, live music and carnival joy. Be aware that this is the busiest time in the city and hotels fill up quite quickly so make sure you book well in advance to secure not only cheap flights to Funchal but great deals on hotels as well.
November, January and February is when you can find the cheapest flights to Funchal. This is the rainy season here, so be prepared for a number of downpours, sometimes torrential.
