Entebbe International Airport (EBB), which is also known as Kampala Entebbe Airport, is the principal international airport of Uganda, a country in East Africa. Most Entebbe flight deals from Australia originate from the country’s leading international airports, including Brisbane International Airport (BNE). The flight from Brisbane to Entebbe takes around 23h. There are also popular flights from Melbourne International Airport (MEL) and Perth International Airport (PER) to Entebbe, which each take around 23h and 20h minimum, respectively.
Unfortunately, direct flights from Australia to Entebbe are not currently available. The common route from Brisbane includes one stop at Dubai International Airport (DXB), or commonly two stops in Doha Hamad International (DOH) and Dubai International Airport (DXB) for routes from both Melbourne and Perth. Emirates Airlines offers the majority of flights, but you can also travel with Kenya Airways and Qatar Airways.
Entebbe itself is very small and does not have a city centre as such, but the main way to travel from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) to the city centre of Entebbe is by taxi. You can take a taxi from the front of the arrivals terminal at the airport to Entebbe, which takes about 10 to 15min and only costs around A$ 5. Uber is also available and can cost around A$ 10, depending on the time of day that you travel. Others opt to travel to the city centre of the Ugandan capital, Kampala. You can travel to Kampala using an airport bus, including the Pineapple Express that takes approximately 2h, tickets for which can be purchased for around A$ 15 one way at the airport. You can also take a taxi, which takes just over an hour depending on traffic and the price is about A$ 40.
Despite being a small town, Entebbe, Uganda, is home to a range of flora, fauna and wildlife. The National Botanical Gardens were laid out in 1989 and include a rainforest zone that has been used in films like Tarzan. You can also see animals including wild monkeys at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, which also serves as the national zoo. Lake Victoria is around a 20min car ride from Entebbe and is the largest lake in Africa. Here you’ll find more than 200 species of fish, and you may even spot hippos and crocodiles in the lake.
Travellers from Australia will need a passport and visa when flying to Entebbe, assuming that you are a citizen of Australia. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Visas cost around A$ 65 for a single entry visa and around A$ 131 and A$ 260 for multiple entry visas, depending on how long you will be staying in Uganda. The processing time is about five working days.
