Airline overview
Singapore Airlines is Singapore's flag carrier. The innovative carrier (it was the launch customer of the A380 superjumbo) flies from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth airports to Singapore Changi from where there are worldwide connections.
SilkAir is its regional carrier, flying throughout Indonesia, Thailand and India. It owns almost half of Virgin Atlantic Airways, has a stake in Tiger Airways, the budget airline, and will launch a new airline in 2012. Scoot, a medium to long-haul carrier, will start flying to destinations in Australia and China next year.
In December 2011 it announced an alliance with Virgin Australia. Singapore's regional offshoot SilkAir will fly between Singapore and Darwin from March 2012 and Virgin Australia will offer the connectivity between Sydney and Darwin from April.
