Australia has several cities that are known for frequently offering Northern Ireland flight deals, including Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. When you book flights to Northern Ireland that depart from Brisbane, you can expect for your trip to typically last around 26h to 33h on average. Those that will be departing from Perth instead will have a journey that lasts approximately 54h to 55h. If you are flying from Sydney, your trip to Northern Ireland may take you between 27h and 32h.
Unfortunately, direct flights from Australia to Northern Ireland are not currently available. However, there are plenty of cheap flights to Northern Ireland for you to choose from, with many of them requiring either two or three layovers. If you will be flying from Brisbane Airport (BNE) to George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD), you will normally have three layovers, and these may take place in the cities of Sydney, Doha, and London. Those departing from Perth Airport (PER) will normally require three layovers as well, and these commonly take place in Melbourne, Abu Dhabi, and Manchester. When flying out of Sydney Airport (SYD), you will normally have two layovers, and these might take place in Hong Kong and London.
Once you have landed in Northern Ireland, there are a few different ways that you can travel throughout the country. One of the easiest ways to travel from city to city is by driving, as the country typically has limited public transportation. You may be able to take a local train, such as the one that travels between Belfast and Derry. There is also an extensive bus network that can be used to go to smaller towns or settlements. Within the city of Belfast, you can use the Translink bus and rail services to go to different neighborhoods and attractions.
Northern Ireland is known for having impressive scenery, so you may want to spend some time outdoors during your visit to the country. Going to Giant's Causeway is a must, as it is known for being the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom. You can also walk along Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, which will bring you to the pretty island of Carrickarede. For an interesting experience and to learn about history, spend a few hours exploring Titanic Belfast, a monument to the city’s maritime heritage that contains numerous exhibits related to the famous RMS Titanic ship. Dunluce Castle is also a unique place to visit, and it offers sweeping views of the surrounding region. Learn more about the rich Irish history and culture by taking a tour of Ulster Museum, which is famous for being one of the largest museums in Northern Ireland.
As long as you will be visiting Northern Ireland for a period of 90 days or less and you are an Australian citizen, you are not required to have a visa. However, you will still be required to have a valid Australian passport. Keep in mind that your passport should not expire within six months of your scheduled return flight to Australia. You will also need to have at least two blank pages, in order to receive your stamps. Once you enter Northern Ireland, immigration officials may ask you to provide proof that you have a return ticket to Australia; this must be booked to occur within the three month period that you are allowed to stay in the country.
