Move over Cape Town, South Africa has another fashion capital ready to show off its most stylish threads. Brimming with plush shopping malls, cool independent boutiques and vintage flea markets, Johannesburg is home to an eclectic mix of traditional, contemporary, and wholly contradictory influences.

Take a look at the best of Jo’burg’s thriving fashion scene.

Neighbourgoods Market

Located in Jo’burg’s trendy Braamfontein area is the Neighbourgoods market, a melting pot of culture, fashion and food in the city.

Home to a number of stalls selling an array of stylish pieces, you’ll be able to keep up to date with all the latest trends. And whilst you’re there, why not also sample some tasty bites from the artisan food stalls.

MeMeMe

This popular fashion emporium has established itself as one of the best places in town to visit for South Africa’s top designer collections.

Known for their brilliantly curated selection, this stylish Jo’burg outpost boasts pieces from home-grown South African talent such as jewellery designer Janine Binneman.

Market on Main

This weekly inner city market is a local celebration of the best food, crafts and fashion you can find in Johannesburg.

With more than 100 independent stalls to choose from, fashion foragers will be in their element trying to snag a bargain, whether it’s a vintage haul or a locally designed one-off.

Plus, for any night owls who don’t want to miss out on some superb shopping, there’s a night market the first Thursday of each month.

Rosebank African Craft

If scouring markets looking for one-of-a-kind stylish buys sounds like your idea of heaven, then Rosebank African Craft Market will be right up your street.

Situated next to one of Johannesburg’s biggest shopping centres, this market is brimming with colourful traditional African clothing and intricate jewellery from all over Africa.

The Space

Despite there being a few stores dotted across S.A., The Space in Rosebank is an awe-inspiring and original concept store.

Housing cherry-picked collections from a variety of cutting edge local designers, the store prides itself on celebrating and showcasing the very best of South African fashion.
