Car was a little dirty inside when received, but drove great for us & the staff was friendly & helpful. I will add that when returning it, they noticed a small chip in the windshield (from a rock or something) - at first I was charged for damages, but they later refunded them, so thank you Hertz!

Booked and paid for an expensive pick-up truck with canopy for a 1 month camping trip in New Zealand. Called 4 days before arrival to be sure the vehicle reserved would be available and was assured it was. On arrival with lots of gear, we were told the vehicle reserved was not available and was given a car. I was told if I waited in Auckland for a day or two, the reserved vehicle would become available. Took a local hotel and waited...never received the promised call and no one answered or returned our calls. Finally we left Auckland and kept the car. No refund of price difference was offered either (Aprox $800.00).

The pickup experience was really poor. The solo man staffing the pickup location was not trained on how the car’s systems should work, leaving us to troubleshoot. This meant that when we found an issue he got extremely flustered, both because he didn’t know how to fix it and because he had 8+ customers waiting in line behind us. He did his best, but he wasn’t set up for success and the experience got the rental off to a bad start.

The assigned car was a diesel so we spent much less on fuel. Everything went very smoothly and timely from pickup to drop-off including the shuttle ride to the departure terminal. The Ace staff were all very friendly.

As we left a bag in the car, the after service is abysmal. We just wanted to call the Domestic Office at the airport and ask them to go outside ,open the door of the car, and hold the bag in the office until my son could pick it up. Instead, our calls were rerouted to some far distant call centre. The poor people could not understand us or we them. Email was the only option. When they tried calling the offices, there was no reply. Europcar might consider a different system. We have had no contact to date.
