Brisbane Airport is a suburb in its own right and the largest airport in Australia by land size. It is also the second busiest capital city airport in Australia after Sydney. Some 22 million passengers passed through the gates in 2014, taking an average of 3750 flights per week. Terminals

There are two terminals at Brisbane Airport:

  • The International Terminal
  • The Domestic Terminal.

Transfers Between Terminals

There is a complimentary Airport Transfer Bus between the Domestic and International Terminals that takes about 10 Minutes.

The Airport Transfer Bus also runs to Skygate from the International Terminal and takes approximately 7 minutes. There are a range of stores at Skygate including  a supermarket, chemist, hairdresser, bakery, beauty salon, cafes, bars, restaurants and over 120 discount factory outlets.

Passengers can also transfer between the International Terminal and Domestic Terminal using Airtrain ($5 one-way).

Brisbane Airport lies about 15 kilometres outside Brisbane city and can be accessed by all major forms of public transport:

Train: Airtrain offers services between the Airport, Brisbane City and the Gold Coast. The Train to Brisbane Central Station takes 24 minutes and costs $15.75 when booked online.

Trains run regularly between 5:04am and 10:04pm, for more detailed timetable information and ticket booking lease visit Airtrain here.

There are also services to the Gold Coast, $34.58 one-way to Robina Train Staion, from where Airtrain have a chauffeur service to Gold Coast addresses. This servie must be booked in advance.

Bus and Coach: Con-x-ion can shuttle passengers to all major accommodation houses in the Brisbane CBD as well as Kangaroo Point and the Brisbane Transit Centre. Bus services are also available to Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Other private shuttle buses to the CBD are also available from around $13 per adult.

Taxis: Expect a fare to Brisbane CBD to cost around $50, plus a access fee of $3.50 for all pick-ups originating from an airport taxi rank.

Uber: Though supposedly banned from making pick-ups at all Australian airports there are still reports of Uber X drivers picking up from Brisbane Airport. To avoid complications Uber X is not recommended for pick-ups but drop-offs are fine and cost around $27 in light traffic from the CBD.

Parking Fees: Various privately operated parking lots are available for those wishing to drive and leave their car near the airport, with most offering a pick-up and drop-off shuttle service directly to the gate. Prices start at around $6-$8 a day.

General Departure Information

International check-in for all airlines is located on Level 4 of the International Terminal. Domestic check-in is located on Level 1 of the Domestic Terminal.

Airline check-in is generally open three hours before your flight’s departure time. Aircraft boarding is called approximately 40 minutes prior to departure time, but allow at least 20 minutes to get through Immigration and Security.

Liquids

Liquids may only be carried in containers holding 100ml or less. They must be carried separately in a single plasitic bag which is:

  •         Transparent and resealable
  •         No larger than 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in)
  •         Able to close properly with all the items inside.

Liquids in containers over 100ml will not be permitted through security. You will need to pack them in your hold baggage instead.

Prescription medicines, where the name on the medicine matches the name on the boarding pass, can be brought on-board in carry-on baggage. Non-prescription medicines and all baby products are also exempt from the security measures, but the amount carried is restricted to a quantity that is reasonable for the duration of the flight.

Electronic Passport Exit

The SmartGate computerised immigration system is available in every Australian international airport, allowing Australian or New Zealand passengers with a biometric ‘chipped’ passport  to use the automated Smartgates instead of having their passport checked by a Border Force officer.

Internet and Wi-Fi

WIFI access is free for 8 hours with a maximum download volume of 500MB. The strongest signals can be received at the seating areas in the food and beverage halls in both terminals.

Internet Kiosks are available on Levels 2, 3 and 4 of the International Terminal. A fee of $2 applies for every 20 minutes of usage.

Plug Stations and Charging

There are two stations on Level 2 of the Domestic Terminal the easiest to find is opposite Cavu in the Common User Area.

In the International Terminal there is a charging station on Level  3 (Airside) at the front of JR/Watch co.

Live sockets may also be available at selected airport cafés or in the Internet Kiosks.

Cafés, Restaurants Bars

Lounges

Some airlines have their own private lounge for passengers. If you are an economy class traveller, you can either purchase a day pass or become a member.

  •  Virgin Australia: $65 day pass or Virgin Australia Membership.The lounge is located opposite gate 41 in the Domestic Terminal.
  • Qantas: Qantas Club Membership only. The lounge is located near gate 22 in the Domestic Terminal.
  • Air New Zealand: NZ$55/85 day pass or Koru Club Membership.The lounge is located Airside in the International Departures Terminal.

Smoking Lounge

Brisbane is a smoke-free airport, although smoking is permitted on a balcony area located on level 3 of the International Terminal after security. As of 1. July 2006, smoking is not permitted directly outside the entrances to the terminal buildings.

Prayer Rooms

A multi-denominational prayer room is located on Level 4 of the International Terminal.

Shopping and Duty Free

Brisbane International Terminal has one of the largest duty free shopping areas in the southern hemisphere. Leisure and lifestyle outlets, designer fashion, fine art, convenience items and Australian souvenirs can be purchased prior to departure.

Toilets

Unisex toilets are located along the main routes in both terminals and usually next to other facilities. They are also located no more than 120 metres away at any time.

Changing Rooms

Baby change facilities and dedicated parenting rooms are located in various locations throughout the terminals. Facilities include private feeding rooms and change benches. There are also microwave ovens or bottle heaters available on each level of the International Terminal and on Level 2 of the Domestic Terminal after security screening near Gate 38.

Showers

Free showers are available on Level 2 of the International Terminal (arrivals) or Level 3 (departures). The Domestic Terminal showers are available at Level 2 Central Area Terminal and Central Area Satellite. Passenger have to supply their own towels and toiletries.

Assisted Travelling Through Terminals

Passengers requiring special assistance are advised to notify their airline at the time they purchase their ticket and prior to their arrival in order to receive added assistance. Airport Ambassadors or a designated airline ground crew member are on hand to assist passengers at the appropriate service counters. These service counters can be found at the start of the check-in counter rows in the International Terminal.

Lost and Found

If you lose an item in the airport, you can enquire at the lost property at the Visitors’ Information Desk located on Level 2 of the International Terminal or by phoning:

Luggage Trolleys

Baggage trolleys are provided free of charge at the International Terminal, and are located in the car park and on Levels 2 and 4. Small trolleys needed to transport hand luggage and duty free shopping are also provided in the Level 3 Departures Lounge. Trolleys are also available for a fee of $4 in the domestic terminal. They are located on the left-hand side of the Domestic Terminal pick up and drop off road.

Nearby Hotels

The airport has a large number of hotels located within a few kilometres of the terminals. Prices range between $95 per night to around $170. The airport is also developing two new hotels, a 5-star Pullman Hotel and a 3.5-star Ibis, which should be completed by November 2016.
