When is the best time to fly to Rabat?

Rabat's weather ranges from cool and temperate, from October to May, to a typical warm Mediterranean climate, from June through to September. Its location by the coast means it benefits from cool ocean breezes throughout the traditionally hot months.

June to August tend to be the most popular times to visit, with many travellers taking flights to Rabat during this period as it coincides with the summer holiday months. There are many great cultural events during this time including the Mawazine music festival which lasts for a week and attracts many world famous artists: Elton John, Rihanna and the Scorpions have all performed at this free festival. Sun-seekers who take a flight to Rabat during the hot months can enjoy some beautiful sandy beaches in the city and further north.

Explore the many local markets such as the thriving Souk Es Sebat, a shoe market overflowing with handcrafted barouches, leather goods and exquisite jewellery and the busy Rue des Consuls market where copper, fabric and deep pile carpets are crafted by artisans as you watch.

Getting around Rabat

It is advisable to have a good map when travelling around the city, especially when using the buses, to check you get off at the correct stop. There are two tram lines between Rabat and Salé that run every 10-20 minutes. They are a good way of getting around the area and fares are very economical. There are a variety of interesting city tours available that are well worth trying. Exploring the city by foot is a great way to soak up the atmosphere and get to experience the real charm of this vibrant city.

Getting from the Airport to the City

Rabat International Airport (RBA) is located in the neighbouring town of Salé. From the airport there are various options for travelling the short distance to Rabat's city centre: by petit taxis, bus or tram. A general tip when using the local blue-coloured petit taxis is to check that the meter is running during your journey to avoid being overcharged. The taxis are inexpensive, plentiful and a quick way to travel around the city.
