Pristine beaches, coral reefs and awesome sailing. The Whitsunday Islands in Australia promise an unforgettable holiday, and Hamilton Island is the biggest of them all.

Get ready to make all your Instagram followers green with envy! Here are the top spots on Hamilton Island for taking the ultimate selfie.

Passage Peak

Whether you identify as a keen hiker or not, this track is worth the climb – guaranteed. The highest vantage point on Hamilton Island, Passage Peak, offers jaw-dropping views of the Whitsundays. It starts on the Scenic Trail and connects with the Saddle Trail. Halfway through you can climb to the Hill Top Viewing Area, where there’s a welcome picnic table.

Resort Lookout

Further inland from Passage Peak there’s the Resort Lookout (the island’s second-highest viewing point), which also starts from the Scenic Trail. This spot drops off sheer cliffs, with views over the resorts, marina, and surrounding islands.

Catseye Beach

Catseye Beach – one of Hamilton Island’s main beaches – was made for kicking back. Soak up the sun, splash around or get into the watersports side of things. Paddleboards, kayaks, catamarans, snorkelling gear and more are all readily available for hire. At low tide, you can wander out to the sand flats for a new perspective of Hamilton Island. Sunrise offers yet another different view. Catseye Beach is also super accessible, being on the resort side of the island and close to most accommodation.

Bonmie Deck

Enjoying prime position at the Hamilton Island Yacht Club, extending into the marina, award-winning Bonmie serves up fine cuisine with views over the Coral Sea. Unwind over afternoon drinks and keep an eye out for turtles drifting through the turquoise waters beneath.

One Tree Hill

Head up the hill and you’ll be treated to legendary 270-degree views over the Whitsunday Islands from a spectacularly sited rotunda. The lookout is particularly pretty at sunset – doubly so with a cocktail in hand from the pop up bar, which opens in the evening.

Hesperus Lawn

Park yourself on the plush grass by the Manta Ray café and watch the sun go down behind the marina’s bobbing masts. On Sunday evenings, there’s the bonus of live music. Getting peckish? Gourmet pizzas and seafood are the order of the day at the cafe (try to get a spot on the balcony).
