Varadero overview

Home to what is regarded by many as the finest beach in the whole of the Caribbean, Varadero is the jewel in Cuba's tourist crown. The glistening turquoise waters of the Atlantic and the fine white sands of the beach lead to a resort which has been built specifically to cater for the needs of the holidaymaker. With exclusive hotels and a fine assortment of shops, bars and restaurants, the city is the very definition of the term tourist-friendly.

Although the resort is rightly regarded as a beach-lover's paradise, with a plethora of water sport activities available for those who crave excitement, Varadero has a softer, more natural side too. Hicacos Point Natural Park is home to a stunning array of lush vegetation and other natural wonders such as the historic and vast Caves of Ambrosio. Another feature of Hicacos Point which is a definite must-see is Mangon Lake, a beautiful stretch of water where a plethora of local wildlife, such as birds and reptiles, can be spotted.

Whether you want to enjoy a relaxing round on Cuba's largest golf course, experience the extreme thrill of skydiving, swim with dolphins or simply lie back on the beach with a cocktail in hand, Varadero offers something special to every visitor and is so much more than simply a beach resort.

When to fly to Varadero

The sub-tropical climate of the area sees the city enjoy a dry season from November to April and a wet season from May to October. The period between November and April is the best time to visit as the chances of torrential rain and tropical storms are lessened, while the average daily temperature remains on the warm side. Humidity is also much less of a problem during these months.

March to April and September to October are the least expensive time to visit. These are the off-peak periods for tourism in Varadero, so generally tend to be a little cheaper.
