The majority of travellers taking cheap flights to Nadi will see the city only briefly as they connect to other parts of Fiji, but it should not be dismissed straight off the bat. The city offers a tempting taste of Fijian life.
Nadi (pronounced Nan dee) is situated on the western side of Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji. It lies clear across from Suva, the capital city.
One of the highlights of Nadi is the Sri Siva Subramaniya, the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere, at the end of the main street. It's a swirling, fabulous mass of pastel colours and delicately carved statues.
Another highlight is the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Full of magical, tropical foliage and colourful orchids, the gardens were created by Raymond Burr, of Perry Mason and Ironside fame.
While the beaches of Nadi are, as you'd expect, beautiful (the most popular are Natadola and Wailoaloa), a less-well-known attraction is a muddier affair. The Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Baths are thought to have healing powers. The warm, gooey mud will reinvigorate your skin. Whatever the legend, it's some of the best fun visitors to Nadi can have.
