Nadi (pronounced Nan dee) is situated on the western side of the main Fijian island of Viti Levu. Nadi is one of the more densely populated regions of Fiji, it has highlands, hot springs, sand dunes and excellent diving locations with plenty of hotels. City Overview:
One of the highlights of Nadi is the Sri Siva Subramaniya, the largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere, at the end of the main street. It’s a swirling, fabulous mass of pastel colours and delicately carved statues.
Another highlight is the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Full of magical, tropical foliage and colourful orchids, the gardens were created by Raymond Burr, of Perry Mason and Ironside fame.
While the beaches of Nadi are, as you’d expect, beautiful (the most popular are Natadola and Wailoaloa), a less-well-known attraction is a muddier affair. The Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Baths are thought to have healing powers and will reinvigorate your skin.
Nadi climate
Nadi has a tropical climate and there’s not much variation year-round. January and February are the warmest months and July and August are the coolest ones. March is the wettest month, July the driest.Getting downtown:Nadi International Airport (NAN) (website: www.airportsfiji.com) is located 10km from Nadi Town on Viti Levu island. Several rental car companies have desks at the airport. To drive in Fiji all you’ll need is a valid licence for the same class of vehicle. Buses range from air-conditioned coaches to open-windowed vehicles. If taking a taxi, visitors must request that the meter is switched on before setting off. Drivers are not allowed to refuse this request.
Getting around Nadi
Local buses are the cheapest way of getting around Nadi. Taxis are plentiful, but you may need to be firm with the driver and ensure that they are using the meter or settle on a fare before you set off.
Bright, yellow motor scooters are available to rent. Hire cars, from international companies, can be hired at the airport.
